Kerry's Attackers
1. Ted Sampley created Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry. He calls Kerry "the radical, hippie-like leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW)" and accuses him of betraying American POW's, MIA's, Vietnam Veterans and the military. Is Sampley credible?
-
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) calls him "one of the most despicable people I have ever had the misfortune to encounter."
-
2. The "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" has dominated the news since the publication of "Unfit for Command," written by John O'Neill and Jerome Corsi. Their TV ads were funded by Bob Perry.
-
John O'Neill. When John Kerry returned from Vietnam and began speaking out eloquently against the war, Richard Nixon set out to destroy Kerry. Nixon's dirty trickster, Charles Colson, recruited John O'Neill to birddog and debate Kerry, and used the power of the White House to get maximum coverage for O'Neill. O'Neill became a law clerk for William Rehnquist, who was made Chief Justice by George H.W. Bush. In 1990, GHWB considered O'Neill for a federal judgeship.
-
Jerome Corsi. Corsi is a regular poster on the far-right FreeRepublic.com, where he posted anti-Catholic ("So this is what the last days of the Catholic Church are going to look like. Buggering boys undermines the moral base and the lawyers rip the gold off the Vatican altars. We may get one more Pope, when this senile one dies, but that's probably about it.") and anti-Muslim smears ("Islam is a peaceful religion - just as long as the women are beaten, the boys buggered and the infidels are killed.")
-
Bob J. Perry, a Houston homebuilder, has donated at least $200,000 to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. He has given millions to Republicans, including $4 million to Texas Republicans alone in 2002. He is a longtime friend and co-conspirator with Karl Rove. He can be reached at Perry Homes, 800-247-3779.
