Democrats.com is a company
We are a company made up of experienced Internet professionals who are ardent Democrats. We are the leading provider of Internet services to Democratic candidates, committees and causes. Our services include Web sites, e-mail broadcasting, online fundraising and Internet advertising. We invite you to visit our store here:
Because we are a company, we cannot make cash or in-kind contributions to candidates, or we would be prosecuted for illegal corporate contributions. For that reason, we also do not make candidate endorsements. While we regularly promote a wide range of political advocacy efforts, we only promote candidates who have hired us to provide Internet services. We inform our readers when we have been hired to promote a candidate or cause, and our readers are free to disagree with us and even to use our community to promote their own views.
Democrats.com is a community
Democrats.com has built the largest online community of Democratic voters, activists, candidates, and elected officials. We invite all Democrats to join us here:
As a service to our community, we publish the only daily news service written by and for Democrats - and it's free! We invite everyone to subscribe here:
In order to build the largest possible community of Democrats, we do not require any membership fees. Instead, we rely upon the voluntary generosity of our members:
Democrats.com has a vision
We believe that the issues and principles of the Democratic Party are shared by a large majority of Americans, and that the Internet can help us unlock the enormous potential of the Democratic majority to win elections and govern effectively.
We believe that the new media can be used to help build a new politics, and we believe that this new way of practicing politics can advance the issues and causes that have made the Democratic Party the oldest and most successful political party in history.
As Democrats, our first challenge is to improve our communication with one another. To succeed as a Party in the new century will mean more than coming together to exchange ideas every four years. We will host ongoing conversations on the challenges we face as a nation, with faith that the best ideas of Democrats will prevail. These discussions will be limited to Democrats who share our commitment to building a robust and dynamic online community.
Our second challenge is to improve our communications with Americans who are not active Democrats. We will publish a free e-mail newsletter to share our ideas with the more than 100 million Americans who use the Internet.
Our biggest challenge is to transform political communication altogether. To most Americans, politics today is about little more than seeing vast sums of money spent on simple-minded mass advertising. The need to accumulate huge war chests has led to the creation of an influence industry that compromises candidates, parties and the political system. Candidates and parties are forced to tightly control their "message." We believe that it is increasingly difficult for the underlying Democratic majority to express itself under these rules, which favor money over ideas.
We believe that the Internet makes it possible to put an end to this demoralizing and corrupting system. The power of the Internet and other interactive media is their inherently conversational nature, and that the challenge for today's political organizers is to inspire and host engaging political discussion and interaction leading both to better policies and a better politics. Towards that end, we will provide consulting services to Democratic candidates and committees to help them make the best possible use of the Internet.
