David Lytel writes of the DC event: "We had 70 people there, including 55 who were there for dinner. It was crowded but really energetic. We talked both about what is happening in the world and what we're going to do about it. There was a great deal of support for telephoning to unregistered voters, organized weekend buses to Pennsylvania and Virginia to do voter registration, and a number of people who said they'd work a booth down on the Mall selling merchandise if we could set one up." Also, see the report from Napa Valley.

Reports from Democrats.com's Bastille Day Celebrations

[On July 13, Democrats.com celebrated Bastille Day at Lavandou, a French Restaurant in Washington D.C. The following report is from David Lytel, Democrats.com co-founder.]

We had 70 people there, including 55 who were there for dinner. It was crowded but really energetic. We talked both about what is happening in the world and what we're going to do about it. There was a great deal of support for telephoning unregistered voters, organized weekend buses to Pennsylvania and Virginia to do voter registration, and a number of people who said they'd work a booth down on the Mall selling merchandise if we could set one up.

We raffled off two American Apology Shirts (see www.americanapologyshirt.com), that say in all 6 languages of the United Nations: "I am sorry that my president is an idiot. I did not vote for him." And we handed out a brochure with all 12 potential Democrats.com T-shirt designs, which you can see at http://www.democrats.com/display.cfm?id=306.

People got to vote for their top 3 favorites, and the winner by a landslide was "Regime Change Begins at Home." The next highest vote getters were Re-Defeat Bush, Any Democrat for President 2004 and National Security Blanket. And everyone had a glass of champagne with which we toasted our host, and thanked the French for their courageous opposition to the war. A great number of people said they'd come again if we had another one, and people especially like the idea of work parties in which we mix some kind of voter contact with some kind of socializing.

[Here is a report from the Napa Valley event, that was held at Bistro Jeanty in Yountville.]

We had 31 people attending, which was a big success on such short notice. Everyone seemed to love meeting fellow Democrats. We had a champagne toast and a number of lively conversations. Many people drove over 2 hours round-trip to attend, including a l4 year old "Democrat in training" and a member of the Nevada County Central Committee. There was a great deal of concern about having a candidate who brings the Party back to its democratic roots AND is electable; opinions differed as to who that might be, ranging from Dean to Edwards to Kerry. All present agreed that they want to continue to have similar events to connect with other Democrats.
