Proposal: All Taxpayers Should Be Automatically Registered To Vote
    27-Oct-04
    Election Reform

Bob Fertik blogs, "Here's a simple proposal: Let's pass a law that automatically registers every taxpayer (and dependent) to vote. Why? Because the current voter registration system is insane - and because it would be so easy to do. All taxpayer records are computerized. They are kept exceptionally clean, so there are very few duplicates or errors... Politically, it's a win-win. Republicans would love this system because fraud would be practically non-existent. Democrats would love this system because every eligible citizen would be automatically registered to vote, saving hundreds of millions in voter registration drives and voter protection campaigns. Election officials would love this system because they would not have to maintain a massive database filled with errors large and small that cause nightmares before, during, and after Election Day. All in favor? "

Bush's Community Service at Project P.U.L.L.
    25-Oct-04
    Bush AWOL

Meg Laughlin of Knight Ridder has written an important article about Bush's time at Project P.U.L.L. in 1973 - while Bush was AWOL from the National Guard. Laughlin's article offers important evidence that Bush's work with P.U.L.L. was indeed community service, as J.H. Hatfield argued in "Fortunate Son" - the biography that led to Hatfield's suicide (hornsandhalos.com). "George had to sign in and out - I remember his signature was a hurried cursive - but he wasn't an employee. He was not a volunteer either," [Althia Turner] said. "John [White] said he had to keep track of George's hours because George had to put in a lot of hours because he was in trouble." "John [White] didn't say what kind of trouble 43 was in - just that he had done something and he (John) made a deal to take him in as a favor to 41 to get some funding," [Fred] Maura said. If Bush was indeed performing community service, what crime had he committed? Was it a DUI - or worse? The latest blog at bobfertik.com...

Noose Closes on Bush's Community Service in 1973
    23-Oct-04
    Bush AWOL

On Feb. 13, Scott McClellan refused to tell the Helen Thomas whether Bush performed community service. But at long last, the truth about Bush's community service in 1973 is coming out! According to an important article by Meg Laughlin of Knight-Ridder, Bush spent much of 1973 working with inner-city kids in Houston at Project P.U.L.L. because "Bush had gotten into some kind of trouble." "George had to sign in and out - I remember his signature was a hurried cursive - but he wasn't an employee. He was not a volunteer either," Althia Turner said. "John [White] said he had to keep track of George's hours because George had to put in a lot of hours because he was in trouble." Was Bush arrested in 1973 for DUI - or worse? Was Bush defrauding the National Guard for no-show pay? Did Bush endanger the lives of the children by taking them flying? The latest blog at http://bobfertik.com ...

NYC Tailor Says 'There's Definitely Something There'
    12-Oct-04
    Campaign 2004: Debates

NY Daily News reports, "There isn't a thimble-full of doubt that Bush had 'something foreign' under his suit jacket during the first two debates, master tailor Frank Shattuck concluded yesterday after studying photos. 'There's definitely something there, in between the shoulder blades,' he said, checking pictures from both debates. 'I can't say what it is, but it's not hidden very well. They should have come to me. I can hide a pistol under the breast.' Photos of the mysterious bulges have clogged the Internet in recent days... Shattuck's best guess at what the foreign object was: maybe a back brace or some kind of body armor. He said a wire was possible, but he was mystified at the obvious placement between the shoulder blades. 'Then again, maybe all [Bush's] winking was at the guy feeding him information,' Shattuck, 43, joked. 'And he kept jumping off that stool like he just got an answer.'" Here's Another Bulge in Bush's Back!
    09-Oct-04
    Campaign 2004: Debates

In the first debate, there was a conspicuous T-shaped bulge in Bush's back. (White House ventriloquist Nicolle Devilish told the NY Times it was "a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric.") In the second debate, there was some kind of curved plate - check out the photo. Who's REALLY got Bush's back? Share your thoughts at bobfertik.com

    Bush's Debate Cheat Sheet
    03-Oct-04
    Campaign 2004: Debates

Matt Drudge is burning up the Internet with his claim that Kerry stole the debate with a secret cheat sheet that he stealthily slipped out of his pocket (with every network broadcasting every second of their actions - see http://drudgereport.com/dnc57.htm). Well, the video experts at Democrats.com did our own close analysis of the debates, and look what we found! The latest from BobFertik.com

STOP THE PRESS! Bush was Grounded for 'Fear of Flying'
    30-Sep-04
    Bush AWOL

Bob Fertik blogs, "Since Walter Robinson published his groundbreaking story '1-year gap in Bush's guard duty' on May 23, 2000, journalists and researchers have been trying to find out WHY Bush stopped flying in 1972... Now, FINALLY, we have a simple answer: Bush developed a 'fear of flying,' possibly influenced by his drinking. Below are two articles based on interviews with Janet Linke, the widow of the F102A pilot (Jan Peter Linke) who had to replace Bush when he quit flying in 1972. Jerry Killian told her and her husband about Bush's flying problems. Linke's story is confirmed by several of her friends. It is also confirmed by the few records that remain, including Bush's grounding order and his flight logs. Finally, it is confirmed by Bush's fellow pilot Deane Roome: 'You wonder if you know who George Bush is. I think he digressed after a while. In the first half, he was gung-ho. Where George failed was to fulfill his obligation as a pilot. It was an irrational time in his life.'"

$1,000 REWARD for any White House Official Who Will Publicly State the Content of the Bush AWOL Documents is False Still Unclaimed
    20-Sep-04
    Bush AWOL

Bob Fertik blogs, "8 days have passed since CBS presented the Killian memos to the American people. The memos have set off a firestorm in the media and on the Internet. Yet despite all the attacks, George Bush and the White House have NEVER called them fraudulent. Of course, George Bush himself won't answer questions, so I can't quote him. But his spokespeople have been asked repeatedly about the documents - and have systematically avoided called them frauds. Why? I have a very simple explanation: because George Bush and Dan Bartlett and Scott McClellan know every sentence in the memos is TRUE. You don't believe me? Watch me put them to the test. I, Bob Fertik, will contribute $1,000 of my personal money to the Republican National Committee if George Bush, Dan Bartlett, or Scott McClellan will say the following in public: 'George Bush believes the Killian memos are all UNTRUE, and the events described in the memos are all FALSE.' That's all. I'm waiting... "

8 Reasons Why the Killian Memos are TRUE
    15-Sep-04
    Bush AWOL

Bob Fertik blogs, "Here are 8 reasons why the Killian memos are true. 1. Wednesday. 2. Thursday 3. Friday 4. Saturday 5. Sunday 6. Monday 7. Tuesday 8. Wednesday Today (9-15-04) is the 8th day the Killian memos have been public. Yet the White House STILL has not called the memos frauds... If the White House announces the documents are fraudulent - and they turn out to be TRUE - then the Buseviks could lose the ELECTION. And if that happens, not only do they have to leave the White House, not only do they (and their powerful cronies) fall off the federal budget gravy train, but also many of them stand an excellent chance of going to JAIL for any one of several dozen scandals. So stay tuned. Every day that goes by WITHOUT the White House declaring the memos fraudulent is one more reason to believe the memos are TRUE."

Democrats.com Exclusive! Bush Impersonated a Veteran in 2000!
    14-Sep-04
    Bush AWOL

On the day George Bush spoke to the National Guard Association, Bob Fertik writes: "On September 6, 2000, Bush spoke at the annual conference of the American Legion in Milwaukee, WI. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, here is how Bush introduced himself: 'George Bush, Post 77, reporting for duty,' Bush said as he took the stage at the Midwest Express Center, wearing the American Legion hat of the post he belongs to in Houston. Unfortunately Mr. Bush was not entitled to wear that hat; in doing so, he was impersonating a veteran. Until now, no one has questioned the photo of Bush wearing a veteran's hat... I challenge any reader to prove that George Bush is entitled to call himself a Veteran. Bush's military records are available below."

AWOL Fraud - at ABC, CNN, and FOX!
    10-Sep-04
    Bush AWOL

Bob Fertik blogs, "While the media is breathlessly trying to prove CBS broadcast fraudulent AWOL memos, three other networks committed fraud this week - yet no one but Salon's Eric Boehlert noticed. All 3 networks gave time to retired Lt. Col. John 'Bill' Calhoun, who claims he saw Bush performing drills in Alabama in the SUMMER of 1972. There's only one problem with Calhoun's story - Bush's OWN records show Bush didn't get credit for any time until October. We don't need typewriter experts to prove that October is not in the SUMMER - making Calhoun's statements an obvious fraud.! Of course it's been 32 years and people's memories fade, so on 2-24-04, Democrats.com submitted a FOIA request for Lt. Calhoun's records, to see if his drill dates overlapped with Bush's (http://democrats.com/display.cfm?id=199). However, in February the White House ordered the Pentagon to reject ALL FOIA requests - so the truth remains a mystery."

Are the Killian Memos a Forgery? Help Us Learn the Truth
    10-Sep-04
    Bush AWOL

The media is buzzing with the possibility that the Killian memos broadcast on 60 Minutes are forgeries. The truth hangs on whether any commonly-used typewriters in the 60's-70's had proportional spacing and superscripts. If you HAVE a typewriter like that (perhaps an IBM Executive Electric like http://www.etypewriters.com/1954-b-2.JPG), please type out a replica of Killian's first memo and see if your typewriter matches his. If it does, tell us about it in Bob Fertik's blog.

By His Own Definition, O'Reilly Isn't a REAL MAN
    24-Jun-04
    Bill O'Reilly

On 6/24/04, Bill O'Reilly's "Most Ridiculous Item of the Day" was a rant about film critic Jack Matthews, who compared O'Reilly with Michael Moore, calling "both ideological thugs who play loose with the facts while fostering hatred in an increasingly polarized country." When Matthews didn't answer O'Reilly's phone call, O'Reilly whined: "Real men do not criticize people behind their backs. They do it, Jack Matthews, face-to-face. OK, pal?" But guess what? After Bob Fertik crushed O'Reilly in a debate about the Iraq War on 9/25/02, O'Reilly did TWO editorials blasting Fertik... behind his back!!! (http://democrats.com/fertik) Hey Bill - that means you're not a REAL MAN, doesn't it? If you're a REAL MAN, then put Fertik back on your show to apologize! And why don't you accept his challenge to a FACE-TO-FACE debate (http://democrats.com/fox)? What's the matter, REAL MAN Bill - are those p***s enlarging pills not working for you?

Boston Globe Lets Dan Bartlett Keep Lying About Bush's Military Records
    20-Apr-04
    Bush AWOL

The Boston Globe has abandoned its quest for the truth about Bush's grounding and AWOL during his National Guard duty, and now is attacking John Kerry's military record. In an open letter to Globe reporter Michael Kranish, Bob Fertik documents Dan Bartlett's latest lies. We demand complete and truthful answers to the 2 questions posed by Walter Robinson of the Globe back on Feb. 14: why Bush went AWOL for many months in 1972-73, and why Bush was grounded.

    It's Time to Impeach Bush
    31-Mar-04
    Bush Impeachment

John Bonifaz and Bob Fertik write, "George W. Bush - whose own election was dubious - has seized monarchical powers in sending this nation into war without any legitimate congressional declaration of war or equivalent congressional action. He has lied to the Congress and to the American people about the rationale for the war. He has imprisoned American citizens without charges and denied them access to lawyers and the courts. He has thus trampled on the Constitution and he has violated his oath of office. This nation is at a crossroads. These are not simply issues to be debated in a presidential election. These are 'high crimes' in the most profound meaning of the phrase, and they require the most serious of legal responses. Our Constitution lays out a specific process for addressing high crimes committed by a president: impeachment. The time has come for Congress to investigate these crimes and begin impeachment proceedings. Our loyalty to our Constitution requires nothing less."

March 24: The Day Bush Was 'Defined' as a Traitor, a Coward and a Creep
    25-Mar-04
    Bush Character

Bob Fertik writes, "When Karl Rove marked 90 days on his calendar to 'define' Kerry, he should have circled March 24 - because that will go down in history as the day that 'defined' Bush - as a traitor, a coward, and a creep."

    Trolling for Truth
    12-Feb-04
    Bush AWOL

Bob Fertik writes, "For Scott McClellan, any attempt to examine these documents in greater detail - or to find out what Bush actually did after April 1972 - is 'trolling for trash.' By accident, McClellan may have revealed the 'trash' that really scares the White House. A reporter named Elisabeth innocently asked McClellan about Bush's failed flight physical - which is at the heart of explanation for why Bush went AWOL in April 1972. McClellan... repeated his 'trolling for trash' and 'gutter politics' mantras five times. Hey Scott, let's get something straight: we are the taxpayers who pay your salary. You work for us, as you will quickly discover if you are handed a subpoena. And we, the taxpayers, are trolling for truth. So when you accuse us of 'gutter politics' and 'trolling for trash,' we're not going to be intimidated. In fact, you're just inspiring us to dig deeper into the facts you want to hide: lies, dirty tricks, drinking, drugs, arrests, coverups, and criminal conspiracy."

AWOL-Gate: 'Untorn' Document Scandal Exposes Need for a Special Prosecutor
    10-Feb-04
    Bush AWOL

Bob Fertik writes: "Three weeks after Election 2000, Democrats.com received the first 'untorn' version of the retirement points awarded to Lt. George W. Bush in his 5th year of service in the Texas Air National Guard. This new document exposes contradictions in Bush's account of his AWOL years (1972-73) and highlights the need for a Special Prosecutor to investigate criminal tampering with George W. Bush's military records."

    National Guard Roundup
    10-Feb-04
    Bush AWOL

From CalPundit: "First, payroll records alone are simply not enough. If Bush wants to put this controversy to rest, he needs to commit to opening up his complete record. So far he appears to hedging mightily on this. Second, many of these documents have been available for years. It's just that no one ever thought to look for them. Bob Fertik of Democrats.com... got copies of the ARF attendance records back in 2000 via a FOIA request, something that any reporter could have done as well... There are at least two good reasons to be skeptical about Bush's story: (1) some of it simply doesn't add up and (2) he has refused to release his entire military record. Considering the trouble it's causing, why would he do that unless there were something awfully embarrassing in there? Bottom line: if Bush's story is really true, he can put a stop to all this speculation instantly by simply ordering all the relevant archives to release his entire record, warts and all. Why won't he?"

AWOL from the Truth: How George W. Bush Lied to Tim Russert About His Missing Military Records
    09-Feb-04
    Bush AWOL

Bob Fertik writes, "George W. Bush promised Tim Russert he would provide 'everything.' In order to learn the truth, we truly need everything in all of his files, including his service records, tax records, medical records, and disciplinary records. Some of these records appear to be unavailable because they were removed from Bush's files, perhaps criminally. In these cases, Bush should order anyone who handled his documents to provide sworn affidavits about their activities. Other records have been withheld for privacy reasons. In these cases, Mr. Bush should issue a formal waiver of his privacy rights to all record-keeping branches of the National Guard, including federal and all state branches. Finally, some of these records may be in his personal or family files. In these cases Mr. Bush should instruct his personal staff to conduct a thorough review for any documents that would complete the public record."

Democrats.com Launches Grassroots Campaign to Impeach Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Tenet, and Ashcroft
    02-Feb-04
    Bush Impeachment

"In the wake of David Kay's testimony before Congress that Iraq did not have any weapons of mass destruction, Democrats.com has launched a grassroots campaign to impeach George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and John Ashcroft. The campaign's Web site is ImpeachCentral.com. To organize grassroots support in each of the 435 Congressional districts in the nation, the campaign has launched a Meetup at ImpeachBush.Meetup.com, which already has over 3,500 participants. According to Democrats.com co-founder Bob Fertik, 'In the coming days, we hope to persuade Members of Congress to speak publicly about the inadequacy of a secret and evasive 'self-investigation' by the Bush investigation, and the need for open impeachment hearings which hold top officials fully accountable. And we hope to build a groundswell of support for impeachment among ordinary Americans, among prominent Americans, and among powerful editorial voices as well.'"

Impeachment, Not Investigation: A Democrats.com Editorial
    02-Feb-04
    Bush Impeachment

It's official. Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. So sayest David Kay. That means everything Bush said about the threat from Iraq since his 'Axis of Evil' State of the Union address in January 2002 was a lie. Investigation? What is there to investigate? There is only one question: Why hasn't Bush been impeached?

Terry McAuliffe Says Bush was AWOL -- Democrats.com Says Bush was AWOL and a Deserter!
    27-Jan-04
    Bush AWOL

"BLITZER: Terry McAuliffe, when Wesley Clark was on that stage with Michael Moore, one of his campaign supporters, and Moore called Bush a deserter and General Clark refused to distance himself from that comment right away, was that a huge blunder? You don't believe that Bush was a deserter, do you? MCAULIFFE: Well, Wolf, in order to be a deserter, you have to actually show up. Let's just deal with the facts. As you know, when Bush got out of college in 1968, it was at the height of the draft. It's well known that the president, former president, used some of his influence to get George Bush into the Texas National Guard. He then wanted to go to Alabama and work on a Senate campaign. So he went to Alabama for a year while he was in the National Guard, and he never showed up. I mean, I would call it AWOL." WE say Bush was AWOL and a Deserter! See Bob Fertik's article at http://democrats.com/display.cfm?id=322

    Deserter? AWOL? Bring It On!
    24-Jan-04
    Bush AWOL

Bob Fertik writes, "The case for AWOL is open and shut, because Bush was absent without leave on several occasions... But the case for desertion is less clear. The question is whether Bush meant his AWOL to be permanent. Put another way, did Bush abandon his commitment to be a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard? Given the totality of circumstances, we believe the answer to this question is Yes, making Bush indeed a 'deserter.' It may be too late to try this case in a military court. But as we enter the 2004 election - an election in which Bush's single most important claim is his record as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces he abandoned when he was young enough to fight - this case can be tried in the court of public opinion. The Democrats should fight this battle, because it goes to the heart of Bush's lack of fitness to be Commander-in-Chief. And this is a battle the Democrats will win, because millions of Americans are outraged that Bush lied to them about the Iraq war."

Top Bush Scandals of 2003, Part II
    18-Jan-04
    Bush Scandals

Ted Kahl and Bob Fertik write: "On Tuesday, George W. Bush plans to obliterate coverage of the Democratic winner of the Iowa Caucus by giving his State of the Union speech a week earlier than usual. In the speech, Bush will lay out his major plans for 2004, thus effectively launching his campaign to get four more years in the White House - by getting more votes (if $200 million in fat-cat contributions makes that possible) or simply rigging the results (if all else fails). But before the nation looks ahead, we want to take one last glance at 2003, to highlight the 5 biggest scandals of the White House since his last State of the Union. Each of these scandals is huge. Indeed, each of these scandals completely eclipses the biggest scandal of President Clinton's eight years in office, Monicagate. If Democracy still existed in America, each of these 5 scandals would be headline news, and the news media would be demanding answers every single day."

An Open Letter to CNN: Stop Your Propaganda Campaign Against Democrats
    04-Jan-04
    Campaign 2004: Media Bias

On behalf of the 250,000 readers of Democrats.com News, I am writing to find out why CNN refuses to report the results of YOUR OWN latest poll, which shows Bush's lead over Howard Dean dropping to only 5% (51%-46%), down from 12% in November. Since this poll has a margin of error of +/- 4%, Dean is nearly tied with Bush. The obvious headline should be: "Howard Dean is Nearly Tied with Bush." But reporting this clear and simple fact would incur the wrath of Karl Rove, who wants you to convince the American people that Howard Dean is "unelectable" - in direct contradiction to the truth. The fact that you refuse to report the results of your OWN poll confirms what all Democrats know - that CNN is a propaganda arm of the Republican Party, barely distinguishable from FOX News. If you believe this criticism is unjust, we would welcome a meeting with your political editors to discuss your coverage of the Democratic Party. Sincerely, Bob Fertik, Co-founder, Democrats.com

Top Bush Scandals of 2003, Part I: Iraq
    01-Jan-04
    Bush Scandals

Bob Fertik and Ted Kahl write, "As the 2004 election year begins, we are astonished to discover that a handful of Americans actually believe George W. Bush should be given four more years in the White House. Obviously this is the result of too much holiday eggnog. So in the spirit of all those year-ending 'top' lists of 2003, here is a quick refresher list of the Top Bush Scandals of 2003. We hope you will send this and future lists to any friends who think they might vote for Bush in 2004. Because there are so MANY scandals, we will publish our list in two parts, the first part being devoted strictly to the Mother of All Scandals - Iraq. Bush's invasion of Iraq may be the single greatest scandal in American history, thoroughly eclipsing such major scandals as Watergate and Teapot Dome, not to mention the utterly insignificant Lewinsky affair. Sometime in the future, historians will judge whether it marked the end of American Democracy and the start of a totalitarian American Empire."

Explosive! Documents Reveal Prescott Bush's Nazi Business Continued Until 1951. The Bush Family Dynasty Is Based On Trading With Enemies - And REAL Treason
    09-Nov-03
    Prescott Bush

Investigative reporter John Buchanan broke 60 years of silence recently when he uncovered documents showing Prescott Bush's business was seized by Congress in 1942 for trading with the enemy. Now Buchanan has gone even further, documenting Prescott's role in many more Nazi-related businesses as late as 1951. "[Democrats.com co-founder Bob] Fertik and others, including former Justice Department Nazi war crimes prosecutor John Loftus... believe Prescott Bush and the Harrimans should have been tried for treason. Now, say Fertik and Loftus, there should be a Congressional investigation into the Bush family's Nazi past and its concealment from the American people for 60 years. 'The American people have a right to know, in detail, about this hidden chapter of our history,' says Loftus, author of The Secret War Against the Jews. 'That's the only way we can understand it and deal with it.'"

"What really happened in Florida during the 2000 Presidential election? Grassroots filmmakers Jeannine Ross and Bruce Yarock tell you the whole story, not just the one you've seen on t.v. or in any other film about the election. A Report on the Protest of Bush in New York City
    02-Jul-03
    protests

Marta Steele writes: "With the cessation of the bombing of Iraq, it is not as if the fight is over, nor even the war, but progressives demonstrating on Monday, June 23, in front of the Sheraton Hotel in midtown Manhattan stressed other issues. The organizer was Lou Posner, head of votermarch.org and nobloodforoil.org... The catalyst was Bush's visit to a $2,000 per plate fundraiser at the hotel... Other progressive groups represented at the 7th Avenue and 54th St. protest were democrats.com and democracy march, also pioneers in protesting the mangled ethics of election 2000. Speakers included Posner, Bob Fertik and Chris Acosta of the former group and Cheryl Guttman of the latter. A last-minute addition was the investigative journalist and best-selling author Greg Palast." In his speech, Fertik declared, "The families of the 9/11 victims still wait for an independent investigation. Eight million New Yorkers would be angry if they knew that the conservative press is lying to them."

Will Emperor Bush Invade Iraq Alone?
    01-Mar-03
    War Crimes

Bob Fertik writes, "Just six months ago, George W. Bush had every nation in the world on his side, with only 3 notorious exceptions - North Korea, Iran, and Iraq. Today, the whole world is against him... Bush could ignore the world and simply invade Iraq. Certainly, he has the troops to do so. But outside the U.S., this would be viewed as direct defiance of the United Nations - and Bush would be declared a war criminal by people around the world. Would that stop Bush? No, because Bush has no conscience... Bush has global ambitions, and he wants to conquer Iraq as the first step towards remaking the world according to his will. Although he knows no history, he has at his disposal the means to join history's most selective pantheon of global conquerors: Alexander, Caesar, Genghis Khan, Napoleon, and Hitler. Will we, the people of the world, let him? The time has come for us to decide..."

Democrats.com Offers $1,000 Reward for Evidence of Iraq's Weapons
    28-Feb-03
    Democrats.com Events

Democrats.com is offering a $1,000 reward for convincing evidence of Iraq's prohibited weapons of mass destruction - nuclear, chemical, and biological. According to Democrats.com co-founder Bob Fertik, "George Bush said several times this week that Iraq's destruction of its Al Samoud 2 missiles would not be sufficient to prevent war, because they are 'just the tip of the iceberg.' But earlier this week, Newsweek revealed that the former head of Iraq's weapons programs told UN inspectors and the CIA in 1995 that Iraq had destroyed all weapons of mass destruction after the Gulf War in 1991," Fertik said. "At the end of this year-long charade, we must now ask: 'Where's the Iceberg?'" Spread the word - and make a contribution so we can offer a larger reward! (http://democrats.com/donate)

WashPost's Media 'Critic' Fawns over Bill O'Reilly
    10-Feb-03
    Bill O'Reilly

    "Dear Howie,

I lost my breakfast reading your fawning article about Bill O'Reilly.

I went up against O'Reilly on his show on 9-25-02. He called me names, told me to "take a bus down to Mexico," and threw me off, but not before he told a stream of lies, all documented here:
    http://democrats.com/fertik

O'Reilly was so humiliated he attacked me in two subsequent segments.

O'Reilly is a loathesome coward who refuses a real debate:
    http://democrats.com/fox

And his boss Roger Ailes is a humorless powermonger who threatened to sue Democrats.com over an April Fool's parody!
    http://democrats.com/ailes

Of course, you won't mention any of this in print, because you're just a right-wing bootlicker who is terrified to tell your readers that Democrats.com is the most important alternative news source in America. With our Internet allies, we are defending freedom and democracy while the Post hands America over to the radical Republican right."

At the 11th Hour, 'Old Europe' Unites to Stop Bush's War
    08-Feb-03
    Bush's War

Bob Fertik writes, "The entire US media is running a single story line written by Bush propaganda minister Karl Rove: that a US invasion of Iraq is inevitable... But suddenly this story line is about to change. Germany and France - dismissed only days ago by Donald Rumsfeld as 'Old Europe' - have come up with a comprehensive plan to avoid war by sending thousands of UN troops to take effective control of Iraq. The stakes here are larger than Iraq. The question now before the world is whether George Bush will himself support the 'relevance' of the UN, or whether Bush has truly transformed the US into a 'new Rome' that is determined to rule the world through imperial might. If Bush launches an aggressive war in direct defiance of the UN Security Council, he will destroy the UN and the entire post-war order. The world is at a tipping point, swinging on the fulcrum between the rule of international law and the raw assertion of US imperialism. Will the US media tell the people?"

How the Global Peace Movement Stopped Bush's War in Iraq
    20-Jan-03
    Iraq Protests

Bob Fertik writes, "I am going to go out on a limb with a bold prediction - there will be no war with Iraq. Why? Because of the amazingly broad-based and passionate peace movement that has sprung up in the US and around the world. George Bush hates Saddam Hussein from the bottom of his heart, because Saddam humiliated his father. But there is one passion greater than this hatred, and that is his passion to win re-election. And Bush now realizes that invading Iraq will unleash protests larger than any held during the Vietnam War, and these protests will sweep Bush and his fellow Republicans out of power in 2004, as they did to fellow Texan Lyndon Johnson in 1968. Bush is smart enough to know he cannot afford to unite the people of the world against him. Bush will find a clever way to shift attention away from Iraq... and will try to find a way to claim victory, but the people of the world will know the truth - WE stopped Bush by taking to the streets to say NO to war."

Why Al Gore's Decision was Wrong
    16-Dec-02
    Al Gore

Bob Fertik writes, "In announcing his momentous decision not to run for President in 2004, Al Gore offered only a precious few words explaining why. For the millions of Americans who remain outraged over the 2000 election - and believe Al Gore deserves to occupy the office that was stolen from him by George W. Bush, his brother Jeb Bush, five Republican Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court, and the right-wing media led by FOX News - these few words were profoundly inadequate. Even more importantly, the reasoning behind those few words is historically wrong. In its usual fashion, the Republican media will not spend much time analyzing Gore's historic decision, and will instead turn its attention to the field of Democratic hopefuls [to] launch a campaign of personal destruction against each of these candidates. But for those of us who will never accept George Bush's theft of the Presidency, Gore's few words deserve a more thorough analysis."

George Bush - Not Saddam Hussein - Is in 'Material Breach' of U.N. Resolution 1441
    05-Dec-02
    Iraq

Bob Fertik writes, "U.N. Resolution 1441 requires 'all Member States' - including the U.S. - 'to give full support to UNMOVIC and the IAEA in the discharge of their mandates, including by providing any information related to prohibited programmes or other aspects of their mandates.' But the NY Times reported on 12-2-02 that 'the administration has held back whatever intelligence it has collected about Iraq's activities.' And on 12-4-02, top U.N. inspector Demetrius Perricos declared 'we are not getting all the intelligence that Bush is getting.' On 12-5-02, Ari Fleischer repeatedly refused to say whether Perricos's charge was true. Bush insists that a 'material breach' of 1441 is grounds for a U.S. invasion of Iraq. But what are the consequences if Bush - not Saddam - is in 'material breach' of 1441? And what obligation does the media have to use as much vigor to investigate alleged US breaches as uses for alleged Iraqi breaches?"

We Need a 21st Century Democratic Revolution!
    07-Nov-02
    Democrats

Bob Fertik writes, " Is it any wonder that Democratic voters stayed home three weeks later on Election Day? Their passionate views had been ignored - and they felt fundamentally betrayed. If the Democratic Party is going to win future elections, the relationship between Democratic voters and their Democratic elected representatives must be completely transformed. We must abandon the one-way technologies of the 18th Century, and embrace the two-way technologies of the present. We need a 21st Century Democratic Revolution - within the Democratic Party. The key elements of the 21st Century Democratic Revolution are Internet votes, Internet discussions, and Internet campaigns... As the Democratic Party selects a new leader in the House - and soon a Presidential candidate - we should ask all of the contenders to embrace this plan for a 21st Century Democratic Revolution. If we transform the party now, Democrats will have the energy and enthusiasm we need to beat the Republicans in 2004."

Predict the Results and Win a Prize!
    05-Nov-02
    Campaign 2002

Bob Fertik writes, "Here's my fearless prediction. In the Senate, Democrats win 51-48-1. In the House, Republicans win 220-214-1. What's your prediction? Call both outcomes correctly and win a prize!"

An Open Letter to NY Times Columnist Nicholas Kristof
    05-Nov-02
    media bias

Bob Fertik writes, "Dear Nicholas: I read with interest your attack on the 'intelligent left.' I note that when reporting on Saudi Arabia, you take the time and trouble to actually visit Saudi Arabia and talk with a few of its citizens. But when you report on the 'intelligent left', you exert no more effort than grabbing a few titillating headlines for rhetorical effect. Exactly how is that different from what you accuse us of doing? If you're interested in actually interviewing a member of the 'intelligent left,' I'd be delighted to oblige. Here's what you'll learn - there are millions of Americans who will never 'get over' the stolen election of 2000. If this happened in another country, I am confident you would be on the side of pro-democracy activists. But in your own country, you side with those who stole the election, and dismiss pro-democracy activists with rhetorical contempt. I have a simple question: why?"

Democrats.com Puts the GOP on the Ropes - HQ Calls for Reinforcements!
    04-Oct-02
    Republicans

Republicans are now on the defensive and have retreated to their corners of the ring, whining and moaning and calling for Freeper reinforcements. Why? Because, as with all bullies who are all bluster and no substance, the rightwingers can dish it out, but they sure as heck can't take it! In the past couple of weeks, the Donkey has shown some real kick. Bob Fertik kicked butt on the O'Reilly Factor, making poor ole Bill so flustered when presented with facts and Fertik's calm assurance, that all he's been able to do since is launch a name calling campaign and barrage his clueless viewers with trumped up statistics. In response to our rising star, the GOP released the following press release to its "team leaders", calling for them to organize Freep attacks to ward off the "desperate" mean Democrats! Read it and laugh!!

Here's the Proof that Americans OPPOSE Bush's War in Iraq
    01-Oct-02
    Iraq

Americans are deeply ambivalent over Bush's Iraq Attack. And with each new poll, more and more Americans are opposed to Bush's cowboy-style go-it-alone invasion. Americans only want war as a last resort, with the backing of Congress and the UN, and the active participation of our allies.

Move Over, O'Reilly - Here Comes THE FERTIK FACTOR
    30-Sep-02
    Bill O'Reilly

On 9-25-02, Bob Fertik whupped Bill O'Reilly in a face-to-face debate. O'Reilly was so upset with his crushing defeat that he twice tried to "spin" his way out by lying about the same CBS News poll. We've gone through O'Reilly's arguments and identified at least EIGHT lies - not to mention personal attacks. Hey Bill, is that the BEST you can do? If so, then make way for THE FERTIK FACTOR!

What Fertik vs. O'Reilly Says About The Media
    27-Sep-02
    Democrats.com News

Writes Mike Hersh: "The Bob Fertik vs. Bill O'Reilly contest -- in which a relative rookie bested the top 'Tough Guy' of the right wing -- exposes not just O'Reilly, not just FOX (aka FAUX) News, but most of the mass media as an uncritical arm of the right wing propaganda machine. Most moderate and liberal guests on 'news' shows run into a buzzsaw of right wing bias and bullying. Here's the solution to right wing dominated mass media discourse, as demonstrated by Bob Fertik of Democrats.com. Bob Fertik, a mild mannered moderate devastated Bill O'Reilly, a leading right wing bully. How did he do that? He refused to back down, he stood toe to toe with one of the self-proclaimed heavy weights, and blew him off the stage. Fertik knew his facts, and stayed 'on message.' Silly taunting failed to cow Fertik, who anticipated and refuted the Republican press releases almost before O'Reilly could parrot them. Fertik didn't fall for the right wing lies."

O'Reilly Logic Exposed: If You Disagree with the Government, Take a Bus to Mexico!
    27-Sep-02
    FOX

When Bob Fertik challenged the Supreme Court's decision in Bush v. Gore on The O'Reilly Factor, O'Reilly exploded: "I believe in the Supreme Court, OK, Mr. Fertik? You don't like it here take a bus down to Mexico." In a mock interview, the Hamster applies "O'Reilly Logic" to a series of recent decisions. "O'Reilly, July 1, 2002: But this court (9th circuit) is anti-American. I don't care what they do. I don't care what they say about hiding behind the Constitution. Hamster: You don't like the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals? You don't like the court system, or the legal system? Well, I have news for you. No one is making you stay in this country, so go take a plane to France." Right on, Hamster!

Bill O'Reilly Accuses Bob Fertik of Lying - Urge O'Reilly to Have a REAL Debate!
    27-Sep-02
    FOX

Poor Bill O'Reilly - Bob Fertik whupped him so bad on his 9-25-02 show that he just can't "get over it." O'Reilly accused Fertik of "deception" at the end of the 9-25 show, and at the start of the 9-26 show he said Fertik "misstated a CBS poll on Iraq, intentionally." Hey Bill, if you think we're lying, don't beat around the Bush, just come out and say it! But we've cited the CBS poll data, so you know you're wrong. Newsday Says Democrats.com is 'Puttin' Some Kick in the Old Donkey'
    27-Sep-02
    Democrats.com Publicity

Newsday's Ellis Henican writes, "Holed up in a converted maid's room in his family's Queens apartment...Fertik has been trying to put the fight back into his fellow Democrats. A longtime political activist with strong ties to the women's movement, he isn't new to these battles. Nor is he bashful about incorporating new technology into the fight. The result: a vibrant Internet community of fellow Democratic activists and a merciless, Republican-bashing Web site, www.democrats.com. He and co-founder David Lytel, who ran the White House Web site in the Clinton years... have assembled a like-minded cadre of 'aggressive progressives'... Their assaults employ the rhetorical baseball bat and the mischievous jab... Internet politics pioneer Kurt Ehrenberg of fastpolitics.com says he's become a fan. 'You gotta love a Web site where you can play a game called, 'Pick Up Ann Coulter' and the front page cartoon calls the president of the US a drunken chicken-hawk,' Ehrenberg joked."

Fertik v. O'Reilly Round 2 - Fertik Takes a Late Hit After the Whistle Blows - So Who's the Master Spinner?
    26-Sep-02
    Democrats.com Publicity

Fox's Bill O'Reilly couldn't debate Democrats.com's Bob Fertik on the facts, so O'Reilly resorted to name-calling and ultimately threw Bob off the air. After Fertik left - and could not defend himself - O'Reilly awarded "The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day" to Fertik's claim that the latest CBS poll showed a majority opposed to Bush's War in Iraq. O'Reilly said, "When asked by CBS, 'Do you approve or disapprove of the US taking military action against Iraq to try to remove Saddam Hussein from power?' 68% of Americans approved, 26% disapproved. Once again, this is a No Spin Zone. We are not going to tolerate deception by anyone because it is ridiculous, all right?" But the same poll reported 61% said the US needs to wait for its allies before taking any action against Iraq, while only 31% said Iraq presents such a clear danger to American interests that the US needs to act now, even without the support of its allies. Hey Bill, late hits suck - we challenge you to a REAL debate!

Bill O'Reilly -- The Most Gutless Man in the Media
    26-Sep-02
    Democratic Voices

"The Bob Fertik vs. Bill O'Reilly contest will never rank with Ali vs. Frazier, thanks to O'Reilly's utterly gutless performance. Facing a fresh faced newcomer to television, Bill 'Tough Guy' O'Reilly folded like a cheap table and ran away like a little boy. Fertik, a driving force behind Democrats.com, opened with a reasonable assertion, that the media has continued their petty vendetta against Al Gore. The evidence supporting Fertik's position is nearly endless. I refer readers to the peerless archives at the Daily Howler. O'Reilly arrogantly attempted to wave away this point, and restated it into some vintage double talk -- some might say spin." So writes Mike Hersh.

In the first head-to-head debate between Democrats.com and FOX News, Democrats.com won! Bill O'Reilly tried to argue that Al Gore's historic speech was not important enough to warrant live coverage by the cable networks. Bob Fertik countered that Al Gore won the 2000 election, and his speech reflects the opinions of the MAJORITY of Americans who oppose Bush's War. O'Reilly tried to argue that the polls favor Bush's War, but Fertik cited the most recent CBS News poll:

52% US should follow recommendations of the UN
37% US should decide what to do on its own

57% US should wait and give the UN more time to get weapons inspectors back into Iraq
37% US should take military action against Iraq fairly soon

61% US needs to wait for its allies before taking any action against Iraq
31% Iraq presents such a clear danger to American interests that the US needs to act now, even without the support of its allies

    Final Score: Democrats.com 1, O'Reilly 0

UN Protest Draws Hundreds to Protest Bush's Iraq War

    Democrats.com Events

AP reports, "Hundreds of demonstrators gathered Thursday outside the United Nations to decry any U.S. attempt to wage war on Saddam Hussein and Iraq. Beating drums and waving signs, the protesters appeared outside as President Bush spoke inside the United Nations, urging world leaders to force Hussein to destroy any Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. 'Earth to Bush: No Iraq war,' read a 1,500-square foot sign, held up with weather balloons, that was towed by a barge along the East River on Thursday morning." Speakers included Democrats.com's Bob Fertik, Lou Posner of VoterMarch.org, Cheryl Guttman of DemocracyMarch.org, Susan Johanesen of Citizens for Legitimate Government, Mark Crispin Miller of NYU, Todd Gitlin of Columbia U, singer Patti Smith, Matthea Marquart of NOW New York City, Sarah Flounders of International Action Center, and others. Why We Oppose George Bush's Iraq War
    12-Sep-02
    Iraq

"Mr. Bush, let me quote some words of your own. These are not words from a distant past, or even before 9-11. These are the words you spoke just last night, looking straight into the camera, speaking to the people of America and the world, pretending to tell the truth: 'Our deepest national conviction is that every life is precious, because every life is the gift of a creator who intended us to live in liberty and equality. More than anything else, this separates us from the enemy we fight. We value every life; our enemies value none - not even the innocent; not even their own.' Mr. Bush, we know you did not write those words. But you read them. And their meaning is so utterly clear that even you can understand what they mean: Mr. Bush, your words mean killing is wrong. And since war is nothing but organized killing, war is wrong." So declared Bob Fertik in his speech at the United Nations on September 12.

Democrats.com Exclusive: Did George W. Bush Evade Income Taxes on his Harken Loans?
    14-Aug-02
    Harken

"George W. Bush's questionable activities and profits during his years as a director of Harken Energy Corp. (1986-1993) have come under a fair amount of scrutiny from the media. Mr. Bush has thus far avoided responsibility for those activities, thanks to a compromised investigation by the SEC during his father's presidency, as well as Mr. Bush's stubborn refusal to provide details of those deals. But an investigation by Democrats.com has uncovered the possibility that one Harken transaction - the cancellation of an estimated $230,375 in debt in 1993 - may have been structured to help Mr. Bush evade income taxes. Democrats.com therefore calls upon Mr. Bush to release his tax returns for 1993 and 1994, and to provide the other documents required to fully understand this shady deal." So writes Bob Fertik.

    Democrats.com Under Attack

On July 20, NewsMax attacked Democrats.com for our "Bushgate" feature, where we are tracking the numerous Bush scandals that will bring about his impeachment - later or preferably sooner. As with previous attacks from the right-wing media, the latest NewsMax attack caused a flurry of e-mails from their right-wing readers. Once again, we have chosen our "favorites," including this gem from John Lauer: "Clinton is the one who set the stage for corporate corruption. He was a degenerate president who got away with a lot of [expletive], so corporate America figured that they, too could get away with anything, just like low-life pond-scum president Clinton and his ugly hag wife, Hitlery." Democrats.com Under Attack

On July 1, Rush Limbaugh attacked Democrats.com for our article about Bush's 9-11 order to shoot down the Heroes on Flight 93 (http://democrats.com/display.cfm?id=282). Not surprisingly, Democrats.com received a few letters from Rush's dittoheads. Here are a few of our "favorites." We won't count the number of vicious, hate-filled letters - including those wishing us dead - from those who accuse us of "hate." Nor will we count the number of ludicrous spelling errors from those who call us "idiots." But we will point out that not ONE letter challenges a single fact in our article. If not ONE of Rush's millions of listeners can dispute a single fact, then we must have hit a bullseye, and Bush DID shoot down the Flight 93 Heroes. Stay tuned for some heavy-duty attacks on Democrats.com, because animals that are cornered get really nasty... [Warning: Extremely vulgar dittohead language – read and behold the high 'family values' and 'morality' of these fine 'Real Americans'...LOL]

Democrats.com Exclusive: In the Infamous 911 Fundraising Photo, Did Bush Order the Shootdown of the Flight 93 Heroes?
    21-Jun-02
    September 11 Exposes

"The Republican Party's decision to sell the photo of George W. Bush taken on Air Force One on September 11 for $150 generated a firestorm of outrage and controversy. But until now, no one has asked what George Bush was actually discussing on the phone aboard Air Force One. And here is the likely scenario: Bush was approving the shooting down of hijacked airliners, which led Dick Cheney to order the shooting down of Flight 93 - with all of the Heroes on board. How can we arrive at this conclusion? In part, we rely upon the White House's own version of 911, as told to the Washington Post. While the White House admits that Bush gave the shootdown order, the Pentagon denies it actually shot down Flight 93. However, a careful analysis of all available evidence points to a shootdown as the most likely cause of the crash of Flight 93 - thus making George W. Bush personally and directly responsible for the deaths of 37 passengers and 7 crew members on Flight 93." So writes Bob Fertik.

Thank heavens for the Internet - if Democrats.com had not run the story on the plight of former-NASA scientist Dian Hardison last Friday night, her case very likely may have been used by the Bushes (both George and Jeb) and John Ashcroft as a springboard to begin a purge of America's liberal intelligentsia. Thanks to Bush operatives, when Dian emerged from jail Thursday (before the Democrats.com story had a chance to get the word out), a swarm of apparently hostile reporters greeted her to get a look at the "blond terrorist"!! Citing 'Failed Presidency,' George W. Bush Resigns (Satire)
    18-Apr-02
    Bush Failure

In a letter to House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Bush wrote, "In the wake of the failed attempt to overthrow President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, I too have taken time to reflect on my actions in office. In the course of my Presidential campaign, I made many promises that I have failed to keep. These included preserving the Social Security Trust Fund and giving seniors a prescription drug benefit. I also promised to restore honor and integrity to the White House, by imposing the strictest ethical standards on my appointees, including those from Enron. I promised the world a 'humble' foreign policy, and peace in the Middle East. By these standards, I believe I have presided over a failed Presidency, and have therefore decided the only way I can honor my promises to the American people is to resign."

NY Times ADMITS Scrubbing 9-09 Warning
    21-Feb-02
    September 11 Exposes

On Feb 14, Democrats.com revealed that the NY Times "scrubbed" from its Web site a crucial warning about Osama Bin Laden that it published on 9-9-01 - just 2 days before Bin Laden's attack on the U.S. In response to our expose, the NY Times has admitted that it scrubbed the article (which was actually posted on 9-8-01) because the article was never published in the PRINT newspaper. This led us to ask: why was John Burns' prescient warning deemed NOT "fit to print"? Read our exchange and draw your own conclusion. We stick to ours! We believe it demonstrates the gross negligence of the CIA, NSA, Justice Department, and the White House in the events leading to 9-11. These agencies had MANY warnings, but the people at the top IGNORED them, at a cost of over 3,000 lives and billions of dollars. All of these screwups remain in their jobs! We demand a Blue Ribbon Commission on 9-11 and a thorough housecleaning - not a Congressional Coverup!

    September 11 Exposes

On 9-9-01 - just two days before Osama Bin Laden's attack on the US - the NY Times published a lengthy and chilling article about Osama Bin Laden by reporter John Burns. Some time after 9-11, the Times SCRUBBED this article, replacing it with a completely different article that Burns wrote on 9-12. Both articles discuss a 2-hour videotape by Bin Laden that intelligence agencies first saw in June 2001, but ignored until September. Why was the 9-9 article scrubbed? Read it yourself - we've UNSCRUBBED it. ALL OF THESE SCREWUPS REMAIN IN THEIR JOBS!!! Democrats.com Holds Its First Online Chat with Paul Begala
    31-Jan-02
    Democrats.com Events

"Junior is gonna fall faster than Enron stock. Yes, there's broad consensus he's doing the right thing on the war side for the good of the nation. But on domestic issues, Bush [is] more interested in rewarding his contributors with special favors in his energy plan, or multi-trillion-dollar tax cuts, or drilling in the wilderness of mining in the national parks, or logging in the national forests. That's why they're so afraid of Enron. Because it exposes them for the whores they are... The record is full of examples of Enron getting special favors from Bush for years before that. So we must ask: why all of a sudden was Enron cut off? Could it be because it was broke??? ... Book this: Junior is gonna join Poppy in the Hall of Failed Presidents, Democrats are going to win both chambers of the Congress, and we might actually one day have a Supreme Court that applies laws instead of the country club bylaws." So predicts Paul Begala in Democrats.com's first online chat.

Democrats.com Launches Enrongate Web Site and Internet Advertising Campaign for Special Prosecutor
    14-Jan-02
    Enron

Democrats.com, which was the first group to call for a Special Prosecutor for the Enron investigation, announced the launch of a special Enrongate Web site and an Internet advertising campaign to build public support for a Special Prosecutor. The efforts by Democrats.com include posting an Internet petition for a Special Prosecutor, which has garnered over 2,700 signatures in three days; creating an in-depth Enrongate Web site at http://democrats.com/enron ; and launching an Internet advertising campaign. The animated banner ad uses tongue-in-cheek humor to highlight Mr. Bush's relationship to Ken Lay. "Enron gave $574,550 to George W. Bush. Bush says, 'I did not have business relations with that man, Kenneth Lay!' Sound familiar? America needs a Special Prosecutor!" The ad will be viewed by 1 million Internet users on 7,000 web sites in the coming days. Democrats.com has also appealed to its supporters to donate additional funds to reach millions of additional Internet users.

Bob highlighted the intimate connections between Enron and Bush, and called for a Special Prosecutor. Horner blamed - guess who - BILL CLINTON!! Democrats.com Exclusive: Deputy AG Larry Thompson Had Financial Ties to Enron
    11-Jan-02
    Enron

One day after John Ashcroft recused himself from the Enrongate criminal investigation and handed it to Deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson, Democrats.com has learned that Thompson himself had financial ties to Enron. Thompson was a partner at the law firm of King & Spalding from 1986 until his appointment as Deputy AG in 2001. "King & Spalding has represented numerous subsidiaries of Enron, including Enron Global LNG, Enron Global Markets, and Enron Energy Services," according to Democrats.com co-founder Bob Fertik. "As a former law partner, Larry Thompson profited personally from the firm's work for Enron. Even if Thompson did not work directly on Enron matters - information which is not publicly available - Thompson cannot avoid the 'appearance of impropriety' which is fatal for such an important investigation," Fertik said. Democrats.com is calling upon George W. Bush to go outside his conflict-ridden Administration to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate Enrongate.

December 12 'Rising from the Ashes' Welcoming Speech by Bob Fertik
    14-Dec-01
    Democrats.com Events

In Washington DC, the Bush Administration and the Republican Party have very different priorities. Instead of helping New York rise from the ashes, they would rather let us dig our way out of the rubble, by ourselves. Instead of assisting the many struggling families who need jobs, food and shelter, they would rather aid the fortunate few who own powerful corporations, oil fields, and mansions. Instead of showing the world America's pride in our unmatched system of open justice, they would rather conduct secret trials with secret evidence collected with secret methods by secret agents. My fellow New Yorkers, the Bush Administration and the Republican Party have their priorities wrong.

Bob Fertik Denounces Coverup of Stolen Election in Interview with CNSNews.com
    18-Nov-01
    Democrats.com Events

A recent review of the Florida 2000 election results by a [media] consortium...wrongly concluded that...Bush still would have won the state and the presidency if the recounts had not been halted by the U.S. Supreme Court. "They [media outlets] chose to spin the outcome as a victory for Bush," Bob Fertik...told CNSNews.com. "They chose to validate Bush's theft of the presidency rather than look at the facts..." When all the legal votes were counted, Gore won by margins ranging from 42 to 171 votes, depending on the standard used for...chads. Moreover, if the voting machines had accurately recorded the intent of Florida's voters, Gore would have won by more than 25,000 votes…the only scenarios that supported a Bush victory were those where some legal votes were not counted, Fertik said. "If you count the votes, Gore wins. If you don't count the votes, Bush wins. In a democracy, you're supposed to count the votes," he said.

Democrats.com Declares Gore the Winner, Launches 'Democracy in 2002' Campaign
    12-Nov-01
    Stolen Election 2000

Following the long-awaited recount of Florida's Presidential ballots, Democrats.com declared Gore the winner of the 2000 election and launched a "Democracy in 2002" campaign to sweep Democrats into office across America in the next election. According to Democrats.com co-founder Bob Fertik, "It has taken more than a year, but we have finally learned the truth about Florida - that if all of the votes had been counted, Al Gore would be President. The only reason George W. Bush was sworn into office is because his campaign adamantly refused to count all of the votes. To put it simply: George W. Bush stole Florida with the help of his brother, Governor Jeb Bush, his campaign co-chair, Secretary of State Katherine Harris, and a partisan Republican majority of the U.S. Supreme Court. The 30,000 members of Democrats.com are proud to declare that we will NEVER 'get over' the Stolen Election."

Michael Rectenwald of Citizens for Legitimate Government (legitgov.org) was interviewed on The Meria Heller Show at www.Meria.net (archived) at length on the state of the world, the U.S.A. and the Stolen Election. Discussed at length are the repercussions of the lax attitude by Americans to defend their democratic right during the 2000 Selection, and what is happening to our country and our rights today. Also discussed is what truly defines a real patriot, and the need to fight for freedoms. Michael's thoughts on the disparity of justice in this country, the second class treatment of the postal workers where anthrax is concerned, the lack of leadership when we need it most -- and Bob Fertik's article on how things would be if Gore was President -- make for an awesome interview.

Top 10 Reasons Why Al Gore Would Be a Better Wartime President Than George W. Bush
    22-Oct-01
    Bush's War

On Saturday, the NY Times declared that Congressional Democrats were thrilled to have George W. Bush leading America's War Against Terrorism. "Bush Winning Gore Backers' High Praises," announced the story by Richard Berke. He writes, "Many Democrats who once dismissed Mr. Bush as too naïve and too dependent on advisers to steer the United States through an international crisis are now praising his and his advisers' performance. Some are even privately expressing satisfaction that Mr. Gore, who tried to make his foreign affairs expertise an issue in the campaign, did not win." My response can be summarized in one simple expletive: bull.

Bush's Biggest Risk Is the 'Credibility Gap'
    16-Oct-01
    Bush's War

"Bush has successfully persuaded America to go to war, but does he have the wisdom, judgment, and character to guide us through to the end of this war? Millions of Americans have doubts, and those doubts are certain to grow. Franklin Roosevelt was beloved while leading America towards victory in World War II. But Richard Nixon was despised after lying his way through America's defeat in Vietnam. George W. Bush faces many perils as we head into a prolonged war. His greatest challenge is to preserve his own dubious credibility, and to prevent a revival of the Credibility Gap." So writes Bob Fertik in Democrats.com.

Harris Belongs in Jail, Not Congress
    04-Oct-01
    Katherine Harris

Writes the Village Voice's Donna Ladd: "'Katherine Harris belongs in jail, not the U.S. Congress,' wrote Democrats.com founder Bob Fertik... Harris violated a list of state and federal laws including the Votings Rights Act, the Ballot Design Law, and the American With Disabilities Act. They are collecting signatures (and donations) to encourage Florida Attorney General Bob Butterworth and Leon County State Attorney Willie Meggs to bring up charges against Harris on 14 points associated with the 2000 presidential election. For one, Harris contracted with a private company for a 'fraudulent felon purge,' costing Democrat Al Gore thousands of votes, the group alleges. [She] allowed Republican operatives to work inside her office, draft speeches for her, and coordinate with Bush-Cheney attorneys on interpretation of election laws. And she allowed county canvassing boards to count 680 clearly illegal overseas military ballots, including some cast after Election Day."

Before the terrorist attack, September was destined to be a difficult month for George W. Bush. Allegations about the 2000 election and his legitimacy were about hit the news... pressure was mounting for formal investigations into election law violations in Florida... Dick Cheney was under increasing criticism about not releasing the names of the people who influenced energy policy... Newsweek published excerpts of "The Accidental President"... a major report was about to be released about the devastation landmines were bringing to innocent people, highlighting the treaty the U.S. has still not signed... international dissatisfaction was growing about the increasing U. S. arrogance and isolation... thousands of protesters were planning to link their arms around the White House... And, as George W. traveled to Florida to celebrate increased test scores at a Jacksonville school, an allegation arose that the scores were bogus. Then Fate intervened...

    10-Jun-01

Problem was, none of their letters made it into the main "letters to the editor" section. So we promised that their voices would be heard here at Democrats.com!

    Can Technology Perfect Our Democracy?
    08-Jun-01
    Democracy

Can we ever fully entrust our precious democracy to imperfect technology? Or should we recognize that democracy is fundamentally NOT a problem of technology. Rather, Democracy is about giving people a chance to be heard. And the only way one person can be heard is if other people are listening. The capacity for listening is precious and uniquely human. We cannot delegate this activity to technology, because no matter how many MIPS they can process, computer chips will never truly "understand."

    The New Republic Attacks Democrats.com
    22-May-01
    Democrats.com Under Attack

Democrats.com is getting so darn popular! In its May 28 issue, The New Republic's Notebook attacked us for complaining about Ken Starr last year, then reporting on Jeb & Cynthia this year. Hey TNR - are you incapable of seeing the difference between investigative reporting and Ken's Starr Chamber? Starr had unlimited taxpayer funding, unlimited subpoena powers, unlimited use of the FBI. He was given this awesome power to conduct an independent, non-partisan investigation of a specific allegation - the Whitewater hoax. Instead, Ken Starr used this power to conspire with Republicans (including Paula Jones's lawyers and Congressional Republicans) in a partisan destroy-Clinton campaign. In the process, he put the entire country through one year of hell and destroyed the Clinton Presidency and Al Gore's campaign - not to mention ruining the lives of Susan McDougal and Julie Hiatt Steele. If you can't see the difference, then you should be working for Karl Rove - you'd fit right in!

As soon as we got out of the subway, we ran into the usual suspects: Cheryl, Chris, Bob Fertik, Teresa Ward (with a great 'It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature' sign complete with Jr as Alfred E Newman), Jon Bexell, Susan from NJ." So reports Leah Faerstein from New York City.

Questions the U.S. News Media Refuses to Ask about the Stolen Election in Florida
    10-Apr-01
    Florida Recount

It has been more than three months since the U.S. Supreme Court violated all principles of law and stopped the counting of votes in Florida in order to declare George W. Bush the President of the United States. With the passage of time, we have learned many details about how Bush stole Florida, but the media remains adamantly opposed to examining these details. Here are some of the many crucial questions we believe the media needs to ask about the Florida election in order to find out the truth.

Media Lies Once Again to Declare Bush the Winner
    10-Apr-01
    Florida Recount

"If you count every vote, Gore wins." So says Doug Hattaway, a former Gore campaign spokesman. When USA Today declares "Newspapers' Recount Shows Bush Prevailed In Fla. Vote," they are simply lying.

Bush Propaganda Machine Distorts Miami-Dade Recount Story
    16-Mar-01
    Florida Recount

The Miami Herald and USA Today claim that their recount of Miami-Dade proves that Bush won Florida. This claim is a lie, because Gore's gain of 682 votes in Palm Beach would have forced Katherine Harris to certify Gore as the winner by 194 votes. But this four-county recount was rejected by the Florida Supreme Court, which ordered a recount in ALL of Florida's counties. As of today, Al Gore leads in this recount by 1,017 votes, but we are still waiting for the media to complete the recount before we know who actually won Florida.

Democrats.com Exclusive: Joe Allbaugh is a 'Named Conspirator' in Funeralgate
    10-Feb-01
    Bush Scandals

Joe Allbaugh, George W. Bush's nominee to head the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has been revealed to be a "Named Conspirator" in Funeralgate, a Texas whistleblower lawsuit against George W. Bush, according to documents published on the Internet by Democrats.com, the largest independent news and community website for Democrats. Allbaugh was campaign manager of Bush's Presidential campaign, and is widely regarded as one of Bush's most powerful aides, along with strategist Karl Rove and spokeswoman Karen Hughes. Together, the three are known as the "Iron Triangle." Allbaugh is scheduled to testify before the Senate Government Affairs Committee on Tuesday, February 13 at 10:30 a.m. "Joe Allbaugh appears to have lied to the Senate Government Oversight Committee in response to its question about 'Funeralgate,'" said Fertik. "In the coming days, Democratic and Republican members of the committee should carefully examine Allbaugh's evasive answer - and pose additional detailed questions - to get to the truth about Allbaugh's involvement in this scandal, which reaches all the way up to the President of the United States," Fertik concluded.

    Can Technology Perfect Our Democracy?

In the end, I hope the first election of the 21st century serves as a reminder: no matter how advanced our technology gets, neither our technology – nor we – will ever be perfect. And for Democracy to survive for another 224 years, we must use all of our human capacities to reason, to think – and most importantly – to listen.
