Changing Religion? Christian station is reborn as WGOP

Christian station drops the pretense and now calls itself WGOP

The FCC last month accepted Washington, DC radio station WWTL's proposed change of call letters and the station is now broadcasting as WGOP.  The station is owned and operated by Sima Birach and Sima Birach, Jr., who have contributed more than $30,000 to the Republican party and its candidates for national office in the last decade.  Using a variety of business names, the Birachs control several Christian radio stations across the U.S.

The station is broadcasting hard core right wing talk radio programs produced around the country.  There is no local programming at this time, although Birach Sr. reports that there will be local programming "eventually."

Despite the programming and the change of call letters, Birach Sr. insists that the station will "not necessarily be more sympathetic to the Republicans."  The station line-up, however, tells a different story.  Arch-conservative hosts such as Dennis Prager, Mike Gallagher and Michael Medved form the core of the station's programming.
