Senator Chris Dodd, Chair, Senate Rules and Administration Committee
Senator Joseph Lieberman, Chair, Senate Government Affairs Committee
Senator Carl Levin, Chair, Senate Government Affairs Subcommittee on Investigations
Senator Tom Daschle, Senate Majority Leader
Dear Senators,To protect our democratic form of government, and the right of Americans to vote - and have our votes counted - in free and fair elections, Democrats.com calls on the Senate Rules and Administration Committee and the Government Affairs Committee to fully investigate the year 2000 Presidential election.
We ask for this investigation because we have solid and compelling evidence of violations or defiance of the following:
- U.S. Constitution (Article II and the 14th Amendment)
- Federal laws (Civil Rights Act of 1965, National Voter Registration Act of 1993, and Americans with Disabilities Act)
- Florida laws (Title IX and Title X)
We believe these violations were knowingly committed in order to prevent the counting of legal votes - and to count illegal votes - in Florida. Furthermore, we believe these violations were committed in order to fraudulently alter the outcome of this election, in defiance of the will of the people of Florida.
Generations of Americans have fought and died for our democracy. We must be ever vigilant in protecting that for which so many have given, in Lincoln's immortal words, "the last full measure of devotion."
Moreover, the rule of law must be upheld. The enforcement of laws that protect every citizen's most cherished right - the right to vote - must never be optional or compromised.
We call upon you, Senators, for a full investigation and strict enforcement of all laws that were broken. We urge you to ensure that everyone who violated the laws of the United States and the State of Florida is brought to Justice.
Sincerely,
